Beckett Mansion
Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #117
Step into one of Los Angeles’ most iconic historic estates—The Beckett Mansion, a stately two-story Colonial Revival masterpiece and designated Historic-Cultural Monument #117. Built in 1910 for Dr. Wesley Beckett, a leading figure in early LA medicine and a trustee of both the Los Angeles County Medical Association and USC, this home stands as a testament to the city’s rich cultural and architectural legacy.
Set on over half an acre in the historic Adams-Normandie neighborhood—once home to some of LA’s most influential families—this residence was part of a distinguished enclave where Craftsman and Victorian mansions rivaled any in the city. In its prime, the Beckett Mansion epitomized that prestige—and continues to impress today.
Designed by John C. Austin, the renowned architect behind landmarks like Los Angeles City Hall, the Shrine Auditorium, and Griffith Observatory, the home boasts an asymmetrical façade and a commanding entry flanked by grand pilasters, offering timeless curb appeal.
Inside, the home opens to a spacious and elegant interior, rich with original turn-of-the-century detailing. From gleaming hardwood floors and wainscoting to dentil crown moldings and artisan millwork, this is craftsmanship that’s rarely seen today. Every inch tells a story—inviting its next steward to preserve its legacy while making it their own.
Villa Hermosa
A Historic Palm Springs Hacienda with Hollywood Heritage
Nestled in the prestigious Movie Colony neighborhood near Ruth Hardy Park, Villahermosa is a stunning Spanish-style hacienda with a rich Hollywood past. Originally built in 1936, this charming estate once served as a guest house for the legendary Cary Grant, who purchased the property in the 1940s. He also acquired a nearby estate—now home to the beloved Copley’s Restaurant, a casually elegant dining spot known for its inviting indoor-outdoor experience in the heart of downtown Palm Springs.
Set on a prime piece of land with sweeping mountain views and lush, park-like grounds, Villahermosa offers timeless elegance and tranquility. In 1953, Cary Grant sold the home after none other than Charlie Chaplin moved in next door, prompting him to relocate to another iconic estate just up the street—one of Palm Springs’ original Old Hollywood gems.
As soon as you step through the original stained glass front door, you’re greeted by the warmth and soul of classic Spanish architecture. Rustic brickwork, terracotta tile floors, a wood-burning fireplace, and authentic details reflect the understated sophistication and personal style Cary Grant was known for.
Thoughtfully Designed for Comfort and Privacy
Villahermosa features three uniquely designed bedroom suites, each offering its own private bathroom and distinct aesthetic. Thoughtful placement on opposite corners of the house ensures maximum privacy for guests.
The Poolside Suite: Features a Queen bed, a serene view of the pool, and direct access to a pergola and gazebo via French doors.
The Mountain View Suite: Offers a King bed and stunning, unobstructed views of the San Jacinto mountains through two large windows.
The Primary Suite: A luxurious retreat with a King bed, private sitting area with a daybed (Queen mattress), and three sets of French doors that open to the pool area. It also includes a mini gym setup with yoga mats, free weights, and resistance bands.
Indoor Elegance Meets Outdoor Living
The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances and all the essentials for home cooking. While the bathrooms have been tastefully updated for modern comfort, they still reflect the home's original charm.
Every major room opens to the expansive backyard through French doors, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The backyard is a true oasis:
A 36-foot private pool and premium Jacuzzi hot tub
Two pergolas perfect for al fresco dining
A charming outdoor gazebo lounge area
Fresh landscaping with vibrant lawns and towering palms
Enjoy modern conveniences like high-speed WiFi, YouTube TV in all private spaces, central A/C, a gas barbecue, a Sonos stereo system, and more.
A Lush, Private Desert Retreat
The estate spans nearly half an acre, with a beautifully manicured front lawn framed by mature palms and breathtaking mountain views. The garden also boasts a variety of fruit trees—grapefruit, orange, pomegranate, tangerine, lime, and fig—for you to enjoy during your stay.
Located less than ¾ mile from downtown Palm Springs, Villahermosa puts you minutes from boutique shopping, fine dining, art galleries, the convention center, and the Spa Casino. Just two blocks away, Ruth Hardy Park offers tennis courts, a fitness track, playgrounds, and plenty of space for outdoor fun.
